*Takes a deep breath* Where to start?

Well, I’m a professional journalist in my mid-twenties and a walking contradiction – a shy self-conscious people-person, a laidback worrywart, an impatient procrastinator, an over-analysing “arty” type, an eternal optimist trapped in the body of a serial pessimist. I used to be indecisive, but now I’m not so sure … ;) I’m a chatterbox once I get going, but I’m a good listener. I’ve got loads of friends and acquaintances but not so many I’m truly close to – but as far as those select few are concerned, 100% loyal and committed. I throw myself into everything completely, though that’s not always for the best.

Like I said, I’ve always been the “arty” type, both personally and academically - over-active imagination as a child, life-long love of books, not-so-secret desires to be talented when it comes to music and art (I loved art class even though I couldn’t draw for toffee and I own a guitar I can’t play, although that has as much to do with not finding the time to really learn as anything else). I liked school – didn’t get into trouble, got better than average but not fantastic results, changed my mind about what I wanted to do afterwards a million times … Did I mention I’m indecisive? And I can exaggerate at times … ;)

Career-wise, I’ve considered many a path – most seriously teaching, law, social work, journalism. Each of them still have their pull, but my heart belongs to the one that reached out and grabbed me. I’m now a fully-fledged, under-paid, over-worked journalist. It has in turn made me want to laugh, cry, scream, punch people, give it all up, be more ambitious and a thousand other things. But I love it. Insane? Probably, but then we all are – it’s just a question of degree. ;)

Other than that, I love writing – one dream that I’ve never changed my mind about is to be a writer, fact over fiction is my realistic compromise. I also love nothing (well, almost nothing) more than to curl up with a good book – I think it’s the escapism that appeals and that also applies to my favourite tv shows and movies.

I firmly believe music is the soundtrack to our lives.

I love travelling – I’ve always felt the journey is as good as getting to your destination. I guess life should be like that too ...

And just as important as the journey are the people who are along for the ride - I'm lucky to be quite close to my immediate family, although I sometimes wish I had more extended family. I have some great friends and the best set of colleagues who are like a second dysfunctional family!
